Sustained by last year's success, the Milano Design Film Festival has tripled the seating capacity for its second edition in Milan on October 9-12 and planned an international tour, which sees it touching down on 19 June at Italian Cultural Institute in Paris, for three dates in July at MAXXI in Rome and 24 - 30 September at Beijing Design Week.

Highlights of the festival will include From the boundary of the usual, a short film on Piero Fornasetti’s world by Toni Meneguzzo, and REM, a feature-length documentary by Tomas Koolhaas about his father Rem.

Promoted by the City of Milan and Expo 2015, MDFF 2014 will comprise cinema, music, debates, workshops, aperitifs, chats, meetings and contests, all staged to enable visitors to look at design and architecture more directly and spontaneously.

During the Salone del Mobile last week, MDFF 2014 launched a contest to select unpublished storyboards from which to make an audiovisual film of up to 10 minutes. The theme “Milan. Places where we eat” is meant to embrace design, architecture and food habits across Milan, which is the coming seat of EXPO 2015.

There will be two prizes: the Short Film Mdff Award (a grant of 15,000 Euros to produce the complete work, which will then be screened at the MDFF in 2015) and the Audience Short Film Award (a study grant offered by the SAE Institute Milan which covers the fees for the 2015 Course of Motion Graphics).
